About

Maya Shikhman has been birding and photographing nature and wildlife for the last eight years, her interest initially inspired by trips to Southwest Florida with its abundant flora and fauna. She expanded that interest to include macro photography, concentrating especially on the extraordinary variety of moths and other insects in Staten Island and the Poconos. She recently held her first solo photography exhibition, titled Insects of the Poconos, at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center in Monroe County, PA. Her work is currently featured in The National Wildlife Federation’s group exhibition Nature’s Witness in Washington, D.C., and previously through Marymount Manhattan College Magazine, Cornell Lab Publishing Group, Staten Island Advance,  Enchanted Living social media,  and North Branch Land Trust’s Annual Auctions. She holds a BA in Studio Art from Marymount Manhattan College, and an MA in Arts Administration from Fashion Institute of Technology. Please contact Maya via the website for available prints.
